Overview

Founded in 1949 this single faculty college is the only school for Veterinary Medicine in Slovakia. It has been offering this degree in English since 1992. The main faculty is about 2km north of the old town (stare miesto) and its farms are in the village of Zemplinska Teplica (35km to the East). Košice on the Hornad River in eastern Slovakia is close to the Hungarian border. The spindle shaped Hlavne Námestie in the medieval centre is considered to be one of the most beautiful squares in Slovakia. In the middle stands the great cathedral of St Elizabeth. A further symbol of the town is the statue of the marathon runner (1924) marking the Košice marathon as one of the oldest in the modern world. Košice was European Capital of Culture 2013 and boasts an eclectic cultural mix from ice hockey to vegan dining. There are good transport links including a small international airport.
