With its roots in a Jesuit foundation of 1913 this bilingual (French and English) liberal arts university is a founder member of the Laurentian University Federation. It is committed to promoting the traditions and culture of the Indigenous People and offers a bachelor degree in Indigenous Studies. Other programs are Philosophy, Religious Studies and Culture and Communications. Students have access to all the programs and facilities offered by The Laurentian University Federation. The green, out of town campus, adjacent to Laurentian University, is surrounded by lakes and water and is in the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area. Sudbury, 412km north of Toronto, is set round the western shores of Lake Ramsey. It owes its wealth to mining and heavy industry and was once heavily polluted, but a policy of regreening with the planting of 12 million trees has changed this. The Lake Laurentian Conservation Area has trails for running, mountain biking and Nordic skiing. The town has two fantastic science museums and is a centre for snowmobiling. There are regular flights, 8-12 daily, to Toronto.
