St Andrew’s is situated on a small rocky headland on the east coast of Scotland overlooking the North Sea. The university, founded in 1413, is the oldest of the Scottish universities and the town and university are closely integrated. The academic buildings are to be found in the historic streets next to local businesses or historic ruins. The town lies 80km northeast of Edinburgh and has good road links; the railway station is at Leuchars, 8km away. It is The Sunday Times University of the Year 2017 for quality of teaching. A broad range of traditional degree courses is offered. Honours degrees usually take four years.
