Overview

Founded in 1780 this public research university is a centre of excellence in a number of areas and is part the (German Research Society) Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and home to the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine. It offer a small number of bachelor and some master’s courses in English. Münster is a cathedral city in northwest Germany in the state of Nordrheinwestfalen (Westphalia) and is considered to be one of the most live-able towns worldwide. Münster is a centre for culture with theatres, musical festivals and historical exhibitions. Situated in an area of flat parkland and moated castles (Wasserburgen) this is Germany’s most cycle friendly city with dedicated cycle routes off the main roads. Close to the minster (Münster) in the town centre is the historical peace hall (Friedenshalle) where the Peace of Westphalia 1648 was signed which ended the 30 years’ war.
