University of Hertfordshire

Overview

In 1952 Hatfield Technical College was opened. The historic town of Hatfield is 20 minutes by train from London King’ Cross and close to the A1. Elizabeth I was at Hatfield House when she was proclaimed queen. University status was conferred in 1992. There are three main campuses where a wide range of degree courses are offered. Many give the chance of an extra year for study abroad or a work placement. The de Havilland and College Lane sites are within walking distance of the town centre of Hatfield and the beautiful Bayfordbury campus is north of Hertford. It is the centre for Physics, Astronomy and Maths and boasts a very good observatory with seven telescopes.
