University of Guelph

Overview

Established in 1964 following the amalgamation of several adjacent colleges, this university is one of Canadas’s leading research institutions and an innovative leader in plant and animal life sciences. The spacious, beautiful, open green campus has a mix of historic and modern buildings – the earliest are 19th century limestone. It offers a broad range of undergraduate courses and most students live on campus. The main campus is on the edge of Guelph, which is about 89km west of Toronto and 27km east of Kitchener-Waterloo. There are additional campuses in Toronto and Ridgetown, which is on Lake Erie 197km southwest of Guelph. Guelph was founded in the 1820s and has some lovely Victorian architecture. Today it is best known for its popular university and beer. It has a vibrant youth scene and plenty of relaxed cafés. The university has a beautiful arboretum. Road links to Toronto with its international airport are very good.
