Overview

This public research university founded in 1614 is one of the oldest and largest in the Netherlands. It is considered to be the best traditional university and boasts four Nobel Laureates. It offers about 30 Bachelor programmes in English including in History Artificial Intelligence and Molecular Medicine. Groningen in the northern Netherlands is a small city with a young population 50% under 35. It has a picturesque city centre with many old buildings and here traffic lights with rain sensors which give quicker priority to cyclists on wet days were invented. In an EU survey (2013) it was ranked in the top three cities in Europe for quality of life. It has very good transport links.
