With its roots in a college founded in 1822 this institution was granted university status in 2007 and has campuses in Carlisle, Lancaster, Ambleside and London. The small cities of Carlisle and Lancaster are situated close to the coast in northwest England and have good road and rail links to Scotland and to the great northern city of Manchester and the south. Ambleside is a small town in the beautiful Lake District and courses in conservation, woodland ecology, outdoor education and more are offered on this campus. In 2014 it became the National School of Forestry. The London campus has some teaching courses.
