Situated on the south coast of England and founded in the 19th century the university was granted degree awarding powers in 1999 and university status in 2005. There are two main campuses in Chichester and Bognor Regis which is by the sea 9km southeast of Chichester. The bus, the uni flyer, links the two sites. The Roman city of Chichester with its fine Norman cathedral and very good theatre is close to the sea and the South Downs and many historical sites. The seaside resort of Bognor Regis has fine sandy beaches. The compact campuses help to create a close-knit community. Frequent train services run via Gatwick airport to London Victoria, approximately 1hour and 32 minutes away and ferries run from Portsmouth to France.
