Overview

Chester’s roots go back to 1839. It was the first purpose built teacher training college in the UK. Today it offers 400 degree courses from Animation to Zoo Management. The city, built by the Romans, boasts two-tiered medieval shops called rows and a city wall as well as a fine sandstone cathedral. It lies on the river Dee. Wales is to the west, Liverpool (40km) to the north and Manchester (60km) to the northeast. It has fast road and good rail links to both cities. The Parkgate universty campus is just outside the ancient city walls and other campuses are linked by a shuttle bus. The Thornton Science Park is about 12km north of the city and not served by the shuttle bus. In addition there is a campus in Warrington and a Univesity Centre in Shrewsbury.
