University of Calgary

Overview

This public research university was granted autonomy in 1966 and is Canada’s top young university. It has a modern main campus and continues to expand and develop. A wide range of bachelor courses are offered in both traditional and modern applied subjects. Calgary is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada and lies on the confluence of the Bow River and Elbow River in the South of the province of Alberta. For thousands of years this area was home to indigenous peoples, Niitsitapi (Blackfoot). Calgary is surrounded by rolling hills and open prairies. It is an hour’s drive to the Rocky Mountains and Banff National Park. In 1988 it hosted the Winter Olympics. Calgary has an airport and very good road links.
