UBC is a public research university with a worldwide reputation, consistently ranked in the world’s top 40. It offers a broad range of bachelor programs and is home to the province’s Medical School. It has two major campuses in Vancouver and a smaller site in the Okanagan. The main Vancouver campus of over 400 hectares occupies a stunning position on the western tip of the Point Grey Peninsula about 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver. Vancouver with its great cultural diversity was settled by the ancestors of the First Nations people 10,000 years ago; Europeans arrived in the late 18th century. Situated on the southwest coast of the Pacific Ocean close to the border with the USA this densely populated city boasts forests, mountains and ocean. Vancouverites can ski in the morning and be on the beach in the afternoon. It has excellent transport links.
