Bristol with its rich cultural heritage, vibrant music scene, green spaces and good transport links won the Sunday Times Award for the best city to live in Britain in 2014. It is situated in the southwest of England straddling the River Avon and on the Severn estuary, within easy reach of South Wales across Brunel’s magnificent suspension bridge and with the Cotswolds to the north and the Mendip Hills to the south. The redbrick, multidisciplinary university was granted its Royal Charter in 1909 and occupies prominent buildings across the city from the 18th century Royal Fort Gardens to modern purpose built facilities, including a motion pod for testing computer games and the indoor sports’ centre with its state-of-the-art cardiovascular training and free weights area.
