L’UQO is a francophone university and a branch of the Université de Québec. It offers a number of undergraduate courses (1er cycle). It is the only program taught in French in Canada in Relations Industrielles et en Ressources Humaines (Industrial Relations and Human Resources). The majority of courses are applied. The main campus is in Gatineau on the north side of the Ottawa River, opposite Ottawa. It is called the twin city of Ottawa. A second campus is at St. Jérome about 169km northeast of Gatineau. The city of Ottawa, which is just 4km away, is the capital of Canada and was created in the 19th century. It regards itself as a big city with a small town feel. It is primarily the seat of government, but boasts great museums, restaurants, shopping and a vibrant cultural life. Situated in the South of Ontario, it is picturesque with its many waterways, parks and green spaces. The historic Rideau Canal with its steep step-like locks is a UNESCO world heritage site. Montreal is about 200km to the East. Ottawa has an international airport.
