Francophone ÉTS was established in 1974 and is a constituent member of the Université de Québec. It specialises in teaching and applied research in engineering and technology transfer to companies. Ranked as one of the top five schools of engineering in Canada it offers courses at all levels including undergraduate (1er cycle). Its motto is ‘la genie pour l’industrie’ (engineering for industry) and it has strong partnerships with industry and a cooperative approach to educating its students. Montréal is situated on an island in the Saint Lawrence River and named after Mont Royal, the mountain at its heart. It is considered to be the cultural capital of Canada with its museums and galleries and music festivals, including the Festival International de Jazz, delicious food and good living. From historic Vieux Montréal with its winding streets to the Stade Olympique it boasts great architecture. Beautiful autumn colours herald cold winter months but winter sports and cosy cafés take over. Transport links are excellent.
