Founded in 1969 l’UQTR is part of the network of the francophone Université de Québec. The main campus is at Trois-Rivières, which is on the St Lawrence River midway between Montréal and Québec (129km). A second, smaller campus is situated at Drummondville, 68km to the South of Trois-Rivières. There are nine further centres across the province. A good range of baccalauréat (1er cycle) programs is offered, including Chimie Criminalistique (Forensic Science). Many of the courses are applied and offer work placements. There is a French Immersion School at Trois-Rivières for non-native speakers. The large, green campus is situated about 3km from the town centre. Trois-Rivières is North America’s second oldest city north of Mexico. Sadly much of the old town was razed to the ground by fire in 1908, but there are still some fine historic buildings and the Harbourfront Park. The town is known for its festivals and has vibrant bars and eateries. Both Montréal to the West and Québec to the East are within 2 hours by car.
