Université du Québec à Rimouski

Overview

Founded in 1969 l’UQAR is part of the network of the francophone Université de Québec and serves the East of the province. It has two main sites, at Rimouski on the south bank of the St Lawrence River, the capital of the region Bas-Saint-Laurent, which is 318km north of Québec. Here a broad range of mainly applied baccalauréat (1er cycle) programs are offered, including, Chimie de l’Environnement et des Bioressources (Environmental Chemistry and Bioresources). Rimouski is a student city, where almost one third of the inhabitants are students. It is an oil distribution centre and a prosperous and energetic place. The nearby Île-St-Barnabé is a small wooded island with gentle hiking trails and shingle and sand beaches. There is a small airport at Mont Joli with flights to Québec and some ferry boats in summer cross the River. A smaller campus at Lévis opposite Québec city (5km) on the south bank of the River offers a number of applied baccalauréats (1er cycle).
