Founded in 1969 L’UQAM is the largest constituent member of the francophone Université du Québec. It offers a broad range of baccalauréat programs (1er cycle) at its main campus in central Montréal, close to the left bank of the St Lawrence River. It has four further sites in the greater metro region of the city, which offer one or two 1er cycle courses: Lanaudière, Laval, la Montérégie and l’Ouest-de-l’Île de Montréal. Montréal is situated on an island in the Saint Lawrence River and named after Mont Royal, the mountain at its heart. It is considered to be the cultural capital of Canada with its museums and galleries and music festivals, including the Festival International de Jazz, delicious food and good living. From historic Vieux Montréal with its winding streets to the Stade Olympique it boasts great architecture. Beautiful autumn colours herald cold winter months but winter sports and cosy cafés take over. Transport links are excellent.
