This prestigious French speaking research and teaching university was founded in 1878. It offers a broad range of undergraduate courses (1er cycle) in French. It is the only Canadian university, which offers the full range of health disciplines including Veterinary Medicine. The main campus is situated on the slopes of Mont Royal and is surrounded by beautiful woodland. L’UdeM has a number of other campuses within and outside Montréal. The city with its high concentration of students is regarded as one of the best student cities in the world. It is affordable, has a very good public transport system and is bicycle friendly. Montréal is situated on an island in the Saint Lawrence River and named after Mont Royal, the mountain at its heart. It is considered to be the cultural capital of Canada with its museums and galleries and music festivals, including the Festival International de Jazz, delicious food and good living. From historic Vieux Montréal with its winding streets to the Stade Olympique it boasts great architecture. Beautiful autumn colours herald cold winter months but winter sports and cosy cafés take over. Transport links are excellent.
