Founded in 1240 the university is housed largely in renovated historic buildings all over the city. It offers a small number of Bachelor courses in Economics and also a Doctor in Dentistry in English. Situated in the heart of Tuscany in central Italy 77km south of Florence the city stands on three hills and is distinguished by its medieval brick buildings cathedral and fan shaped central square where the Palio horse race takes place twice each summer over four days. Road and rail links are good. It is just over two hours from Pisa International Airport.
