Overview

This public university was established in 1548 in the port city of Messina which is situated on the northeast coast of Sicily on the Mediterrnean. With its large natural harbour and proximity to the west coast of Italy across the strait it was for centuries the gateway to Sicilay and a major transport hub. This ancient city was partially destroyed by an earthquake in 1908 and rebuilt in the style of the belle époque with wide boulevards. The beautiful cathedral (duomo) dates back in part to the Norman period. The university offers bachelor programmes in Data Analysis and Political Sciences and International Relations in English and a Master’s in Medicine and Surgery.
