Overview

This university for medical studies offers a practice oriented medical degree, Human Medicine, in English. During the preclinical phase students will spend two weeks each year, 3 modules, in Targu Mures (Romania). The final three years are spent either in Germny or Targu Mures. The bedside teaching in German hospitals is done in both English and German. The campus is situated in the Bahrenfeld neighbourhood in Science City in the Altona district about 8.5 km from the centre of Hamburg. Hamburg is a vibrant cultural and commercial centre in the North of Germany on the river Elbe. Much of the historical centre was destroyed by carpet bombing in World War 2 but some parts survived. The Warehouse District, ‘Speicherstadt’, built at the end of the 19th century to store coffee, spices etc is now a UNESCO world heritage site. Hamburg was and is one of the largest inland ports in the world. The most recent addition to the modern city is the cultural centre which houses 3 concert halls, restaurants and more. The Elbphilarmonie, known as ‘Elphi’ and designed by Herzog and de Meuron, stands on the banks of the Elbe in the old port town (Hafenstadt) and is a magnificent sight.
