The picturesque town of Turku straddles the river Aura close to the coast of south-west Finland. Dating from the 13th century it has a fine riverfront market square where old sailing boats are moored and narrow medieval cobblestone streets and a medieval fortress. Founded in 1992 the university is multidisciplinary and offers Bachelor degrees in English in Communication and Information Technology at Turku and Nursing at Salo for which a moderate knowledge of Finnish is required. Turku is 166km west of Helsinki about 2 hours by road and 2 hours 40 minutes by train.
