Trent University

Overview

Established in 1964 this public liberal arts and science oriented university has two sites, the main one in Peterborough and a small one in Oshawa. At Peterborough there is a college system. Each student is a member of a college and the colleges have their own individual character. A good range of undergraduate courses is offered. The spacious campus with some award winning architecture sits on the banks of the Otonabee River, 5.6km north of the city of Peterborough, which is about 140km north-east of Toronto. It is the gateway to the wooded holiday area, Kawarthas, which means ‘The land of Shining Waters’. With its beautiful lakes and rivers there are plenty of canoeing and hiking opportunities. Peterborough is a green university town with a quaint centre and boasts historic sites and cultural venues, including the Canadian Canoe Museum. The compact Durham campus at Oshawa is 60km from Toronto on the shore of Lake Ontario. Both towns have very good road links to Toronto.
