Established in 1963 York is one of the plate glass universities. It is situated in Heslington, 3km, from the centre of the historic city of York with its beautiful cathedral, museums, medieval houses and much more. The rolling, landscaped campus with its artworks and galleries is home to eight undergraduate colleges and teaching facilities. All undergraduate students are a member of one of these colleges which form small distinct communities and offer support and guidance through tutors and also activities and events. There are opportunities for all students to spend some time abroad and there are many courses which offer a year abroad or a year in industry. It is one of the few universities to offer Philosophy, Politics & Economics. York is in east Yorkshire in the north of England and has very good transport links.
