The university is in the centre of Glasgow, which is situated on the river Clyde in Scotland’s western Lowlands. It has excellent transport links- road, rail and air. The city is home to the Scottish Opera and Ballet and has outstanding art galleries and museums as well as a vibrant music scene and excellent shopping and sporting facilities including a velodrome. It was voted the world’s friendliest city in the Rough Guide survey. The university has its origins in the Andersonian Institute, 1796, and gained its Royal Charter in 1964. It is a technological university and a founding member of the first International Max Planck Partnership. Courses are usually 4 or 5 years and there are many joint and combined studies, for example Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering or Hospitality and Tourism and Italian.
