Founded in 1866 StFX became the first coeducational Roman Catholic university in North America. The first degrees to women were awarded in 1897. It is primarily an undergraduate university with a close-knit and culturally diverse community. It offers a bachelor program in Aquatic Resources. The picturesque campus is situated in the small town of Antigonish in the north eastern corner of Nova Scotia. Antigonish is a Mi’kmaq name – the first Europeans settled here in 1622. Many Scottish settlers arrived later and the town is known for the Highland Games, which have been held since 1861. This compact student town is surrounded by beautiful farms, beaches and ski hills. It is 219km north of Halifax where there is an international airport.
