Sheffield Hallam University

Overview

The School of Design was founded in 1843, later becoming Sheffield Polytechnic, gaining university status in 1992. The university has two campuses- the City Campus in the heart of the city and the Collegiate Crescent Campus, a 20 minute walk away. Today it offers a broad range of courses, some of which are applied and many of which offer the possibility of a work placement. There is a Languages’ Scheme which offers stand alone modules in a number of foreign languages. Sheffield with its proximity to the hills of the Peak District National Park is often described as a great outdoors city. It is also a cultural centre and home to the well-known Crucible Theatre. Situated in the north of England in South Yorkshire the city has very good road, rail and air links.
