The faculty of Medicine was founded in 1769 and the university is named after the doctor who discovered the cause of puerperal fever. It has been running programmes in English since 1989 and offers courses in Nursing Midwifery and Medicine. Medical students are expected to learn some Hungarian. It is situated in the great capital city of Budapest. Bisected by the river the old city of Buda on Castle Hill is connected to the grand 19th century development of Pest by a magnificent chain bridge. The city is called the pearl of the Danube. Budapest has good transport links and an international airport.
