Founded in 1992 the university has three main campuses in Kuopio Lisalmi and Varkaus in south-east Finland. A number of Bachelor degrees in English are offered mainly at the Kuopio site for example in Mechanical Engineering and Internet of Things. Nursing is available in English but students must have a knowledge of Swedish. Kuopio is in an area of lakes and forests- the largest lake district in Europe- where there are sporting and outdoor activities including golf skiing and mountain-biking. It has a small airport with flights to Helsinki (380km).
