Overview

Sir Charles Halle, founder of the Halle orchestra, was the first Principal of the Royal Manchester College of Music, now RNCM. The purpose built conservatoire with its world class performing venues is situated 1.5 km south of the city centre in the heart of the university district. Practical activity is placed within the context of academic studies. The college, which has an enviable collection of historical instruments, offers historical performance as a specialism. Visiting artists support instrumental and voice teaching. Popular music is also available.
