Overview

Founded in 1959 the Faculty of Medicine is the oldest faculty of the university which began teaching in English in 1992. Both Medicine and Dentistry are offered in English. Košice on the Hornad River in eastern Slovakia is close to the Hungarian border. The spindle shaped Hlavne Námestie in the medieval centre is considered to be one of the most beautiful squares in Slovakia. In the middle stands the great cathedral of St Elizabeth. A further symbol of the town is the statue of the marathon runner (1924) marking the Košice marathon as one of the oldest in the modern world. Košice was European Capital of Culture 2013 and boasts an eclectic cultural mix from ice hockey to vegan dining. There are good transport links including a small international airport.
