This public higher education institution was founded in 1961 and takes its name from the Roman poet who spent the last years of his life in Tomis now Constantia. The Faculty of Medicine dating from 1990 has been offering Medicine in English since 2005. International students study Romanian as part of their medical course. Costantia is situated in south-east Romania on the Black Sea and is close to the beach resort of Mamaia. The important port city boasts a rich cultural heritage from 4th century mosaics to the towering minarets of the Mahmudiye Moskul good museums and a peaceful promenade. It is 227km east of Bucharest and has good road and rail links. There is a small international airport 26km away.
