Founded in 1910, this public undergraduate focused institution was renamed Mount Royal University in 2009. It is highly regarded for its small class sizes and focus on teaching. A small number of bachelor programs as well as diploma and certificate courses are available. The main campus is in the city centre; the Aviation Diploma is taught at Springbank on the edge of the city by the airport. This modern city, one of the fastest growing in Canada, is on the confluence of the Bow River and Elbow River in the South of the province of Alberta. For thousands of years this area was home to indigenous peoples, Niitsitapi (Blackfoot). Calgary is surrounded by rolling hills and open prairies. It is an hour’s drive to the Rocky Mountains and Banff National Park. In 1988 it hosted the Winter Olympics. Calgary has an airport and very good road links.
