With its roots in the Leeds Mechanics Institute, founded in 1824, the university has grown and developed, becoming Leeds Metropolitan University in 1992 and renamed Leeds Beckett in 2014. The modern architecture of city centre campuses – Broadcasting House, officially one of the world’s tallest buildings- contrasts with the historic buildings on the 100 acre Headingley Campus, 5km from the centre and where there are good sports’ facilities. Leeds has a very good bus service and excellent road, rail and air links. The four faculties offer a wide range of undergraduate courses, many of which are applied. Leeds is a vibrant and friendly city in West Yorkshire in the north of England. It is home to Opera North and its shopping area is famous for the beautiful Victorian Arcades and its market.
