Heriot-Watt University

Overview

Founded in 1821 the university has its roots in the first Mechanics’ Institute and was granted its Royal Charter in 1966. Today there are 5 campuses, 3 in Scotland, one in Dubai and one in Kuala Lumpur. The main campus, situated in 380 acres of beautiful parkland, is 10km west of Edinburgh city centre. It is home to Oriam, Scotland’s national football and rugby training hub. Degrees in Building and Town and Country Planning and also Accounting and Finance are rated very highly. Edinburgh, the compact, hilly capital of Scotland, is situated on the Firth of Fourth on the east coast and has excellent transport links. It is a UNESCO world heritage site.The Borders campus at Galashiels, 56km south of Edinburgh, is home to the School of Textiles and Design. The Orkney campus, at Stromness on the island of Orkney, is the Centre for Island Technology. Ferries sail from Stromness to Thurso on the northeast coast of Scotland.
