Opened in 1949 as an agricultural college, Hartpury offered its first degree course in 1992 in Equine Studies. Since 2017 it has held degree awarding powers and specialises in equine, agricultural, sport and veterinary nursing bachelor programmes. Set in 360 hectares of farmland it is situated in the West of England about five miles from the county town of Gloucester with its fine cathedral. It is close to the beautiful Cotswolds. Birmingham is about 50 miles to the North (M5 motorway) and Oxford 48 miles to the East.
