Situated in the heart of rural Shropshire in the west of England about 64 kilometres west of Birmingham the college was founded in 1901 for the teaching of practical and theoretical agriculture. It received its full university title in 2012 and was named Modern University of the Year 2017 in The Times Good University Guide 2016. It has a 343 hectare farm and specialises in courses which relate to the rural economy; all undergraduate students complete a 12 month placement in a commercial environment. Most first year undergraduate students are offered on campus accommodation.
