The university is situated in northwest England in the market town of Ormskirk not far from the Lancashire coastline and just 24km north of Liverpool to where there are very good road and rail links. Manchester is also in easy reach. Founded in 1885 as a teacher training college for women, university status was granted in 2006. In the National Student Housing Awards 2016 the accommodation achieved top position . The landscaped campus with its mix of modern and historic architecture is also rated very highly for its high quality facilities.
