Founded in 1873 this is one of Canada’s leading engineering, teaching and research institutions. This francophone university, the largest engineering school in Québec, offers programs in all areas of engineering at all levels from baccalauréat (1er cycle) to PhD (3ème cycle). It is situated on the campus of the Université de Montréal close to the St Lawrence River. Montréal is situated on an island in the Saint Lawrence River and named after Mont Royal, the mountain at its heart. It is considered to be the cultural capital of Canada with its museums and galleries and music festivals, including the Festival International de Jazz, delicious food and good living. From historic Vieux Montréal with its winding streets to the Stade Olympique it boasts great architecture. Beautiful autumn colours herald cold winter months but winter sports and cosy cafés take over. Transport links are excellent.
