Dal, as the university is known to its students, was established by the then Scottish Earl of Dalhousie in 1818 and modelled on the University of Edinburgh. Today it combines historic buildings with modern facilities and offers a broad range of undergraduate programs. Halifax, the provincial capital, is situated on the Atlantic coast and is regarded as one of the friendliest cities in the world. This green city with its parks and open spaces also offers plenty of outdoor activities including, surfing, kayaking and sailing. Halifax has an international airport.
