Overview

Dal, as the university is known to its students, was established by the then Scottish Earl of Dalhousie in 1818 and modelled on the University of Edinburgh. Today it combines historic buildings with modern facilities and offers a broad range of undergraduate programs. Students can combine programs to create a unique degree, for example Physics with a second Major in Music. The Halifax campuses are all within walking distance of the historic waterfront. Halifax, the provincial capital, is situated on the Atlantic coast and is regarded as one of the friendliest cities in the world. Haligonians (the people of Halifax) enjoy a vibrant and thriving arts, theatre, live music and culinary scene. This green city with its parks and open spaces also offers plenty of outdoor activities including, surfing, kayaking and sailing. Halifax has an international airport.
