The university has its roots in the College of Design which was founded in 1843. It underwent many transformations and achieved university status in 1992. Situated in the English Midlands, Coventry has excellent transport links- road, rail and air. It is less than half an hour by train to Birmingham and just over an hour from London. The city centre campus is close to the iconic cathedral which integrates the modern Basil Spence architecture with the medieval remains. The birthplace of the British motor industry, Coventry engineering courses adopt an activity led approach. In the Guardian university Guide 2017 the courses in Film Production and Photography and Hospitality, Event Management and Tourism were both ranked second. Some undergraduate courses start in January.
