Concordia University was founded in 1974 when Sir George Williams and Loyola Colleges amalgamated. It is one of three English speaking universities in francophone Montréal. This public comprehensive institution offers a good range of undergraduate courses and is home to the Canadian Institute of Aerospace Design and Innovation. Its campuses, situated in downtown Montréal, are linked by a free shuttle bus. The city with its high concentration of students is regarded as one of the best student cities in the world. It is affordable, has a very good public transport system and is bicycle friendly. Montréal is situated on an island in the Saint Lawrence River and named after Mont Royal, the mountain at its heart. It is considered to be the cultural capital of Canada with its museums and galleries and music festivals, including the Festival International de Jazz, delicious food and good living. From historic Vieux Montréal with its winding streets to the Stade Olympique it boasts great architecture. Beautiful autumn colours herald cold winter months but winter sports and cosy cafés take over. Transport links are excellent.
