Founded in Alcalá in 1293 this public research university moved to its current site, Monocloa, in the Ciudad Universitaria area of Madrid in 1927 where the main faculties are situated. It was one of the first universities to grant a doctorate to a female student in 1785 and today is a leading venue for major Spanish film premieres. The university which collaborates with universities around the world offers some bilingual degrees, for example in Psychology.
