Colchester, Britain’s oldest recorded town, is situated in the East of England and has good road and rail links to London about 70km and just under an hour away by mainline train. The Institute has its roots in the School of Art which was founded in 1885. Today it offers degrees, for example in creative subjects, education, construction and IT. Vocational learning is integral to all the courses, whatever the level of qualification. The city offers modern and historical cultural attractions – Roman ruins, a large Norman Keep close to the modern shopping centre, theatre and art gallery. The Institute is a ten minute walk from the city centre.
