Founded in 1894 and granted a royal charter in 1966 the university adopted the name City to reflect its long-standing relationship and strong links with the City of London. The Lord Mayor of London is Rector. All the academic buildings are situated within walking distance of the commercial and business districts of the City of London and the university has a strong focus business and the professions.
