Founded in 1942 this research and teaching institution offers a broad range of undergraduate courses. The modern, extensive campus is situated about 4.3km south of the city centre on an isthmus between the Rideau River and the Rideau Canal. The city of Ottawa, the capital of Canada, was created in the 19th century and regards itself as a big city with a small town feel. It is primarily the seat of government, but boasts great museums, restaurants, shopping and a vibrant cultural life. Situated in the South of Ontario, it is picturesque with its many waterways, parks and green spaces. The historic Rideau Canal with its steep step-like locks is a UNESCO world heritage site. Lake Ontario is 200km to the South and Montreal is 200km to the East. Ottawa has an international airport.
