One of Canada’s youngest universities, it takes its name from the island on which it is situated. The university offers a number of bachelor programs, including in Business Administration. The modern compact campus is about 9km from the small town of Sydney on the eastern tip of the province. Cape Breton is linked to the rest of Nova Scotia by a swing bridge. Sydney, once a steel and coal city, now has a harbour where cruise ships dock. It is a fine starting-point for exploring the rugged coastline and beaches. The Cabot Trail (297km long) traverses coastal mountains. Hikers enjoy sightings of bald eagles, moose and migrating whales. The small airport has regular flights to the capital of the province, Halifax (50 minutes).
