Brandon University

Overview

With its roots in 1899 as a Baptist institution, Brandon occupies a historic campus on the Assiniboine River. It was granted a university charter in 1967 and offers a small number of bachelor courses, for example in Psychiatric Nursing, Environmental Science and Music. The School of Music is highly regarded. There is a large indigenous focus with a number of languages including Cree available and a Minor in Aboriginal Art is offered. Brandon is a small city in southwestern Manitoba, 214 km west of the provincial capital, Winnipeg. It is an agricultural region, but the Riding Mountain National Park is an hour by car north of Brandon, where there is hiking, biking, canoeing and wildlife. Brandon is on the Trans – Canadian Highway 214.
