Overview

Founded in 1823 as the London Mechanics’ Institute, Birkbeck is a public research university and a constituent college of the University of London. Its main site is in Bloomsbury in Central London. It specialises in offering evening higher education. The degree courses which are available in a range of subjects, including Languages, Biological Sciences and Psychology, can be studied either full or part-time. Part-time applicants apply directly to the college. Many courses are offered with a Foundation Year for applicants who do not have appropriate qualifications. Nearly all lectures are in the evening.
